The Geoffrey H. Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law launched the latest group of entrepreneurs to complete the 24-week micro-enterprise program. A ceremony at the Villa Graziadio Executive Center on the Malibu campus in April celebrated the successes of each of the 14 entrepreneurs. Howard Spunt, cofounder of Landmark Retail Group, served as keynote speaker.

Doug W. Kmiec, Caruso Family Chair in Constitutional Law and former U.S. Ambassador to Malta, presented a lecture at the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue on November 13 as part of their TED conference. His deeply personal lecture, titled “Love Your Enemies, Kill Your Friends, Hate Your Life,” promoted civility and finding the common ground in public and private discourse.

Chief Justice Myron T. Steele of the Delaware Supreme Court spoke about current issues in corporate law on November 3 at Pepperdine’s School of Law in Malibu. Steele, who was joined by panelist James R. Griffin (JD ’96) of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, discussed issues of corporate governance and SEC proxy access – imely issues derived from the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform and Consumer Protection Act.

The School of Law hosted two authors and legal scholars from across the political divides, Mark Lane and Robert K. Tanenbaum, on October 27 for a discussion about their careers and the search for truth following President Kennedy’s assassination. The discussion, titled “From the Left and the Right,” took place with a crowded audience in the Mendenhall Appellate Courtroom of the law school, Malibu.

Pepperdine’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution will welcome law faculty from across the country to share ideas and resources for teaching mediation from June 21 to 22 at the School of Law in Malibu, California.

Twenty-nine Pepperdine Law graduates will be sworn into state and federal courts in front of friends and family in a special ceremony on Tuesday, May 24 at the School of Law in Malibu, California. The ceremony will celebrate graduates who have passed the February 2011 California Bar Exam.

Malibu, California (February 10, 2011) – Deanell Reece Tacha, a Scandia, Kansas, native with a distinguished career in the federal judiciary and higher education, has been named Dean of the Pepperdine University School of Law. The announcement was made today by Pepperdine University President Andrew K. Benton. She will begin her duties on June 1.

Pepperdine’s Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics will host the conference, “A Call for International Religious Freedom” on Friday, February 25, in Malibu, California. The keynote speakers will be Suzan Johnson Cook and Representative Frank Wolf.

Pepperdine University School of Law will present the forum “The Bible and the Law” on February 11 to 12 in Malibu, California. The forum will serve as a working conference for the authors of upcoming book, The Bible and the Civil Law, which will be co-edited by Robert F. Cochran, Jr., Louis D. Brandeis Professor of Law.

Condoleezza Rice will visit Pepperdine University on Wednesday, Feb. 9, to share insights from her life and career in two special events at the Malibu campus.

Pepperdine University School of Law and the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution will host the Institute for Transnational Arbitration Conference January 15 to 17, in Malibu, California. Pepperdine will also welcome the American Law Institute’s International Commercial Arbitration Joint Meeting on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Villa Graziadio Executive Center.

Pepperdine’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution will present the 17th annual Winter Intensive Dispute Resolution Program from Jan. 3 to 7 at the School of Law in Malibu, California. The 110 participants in the program include visiting students representing 24 law schools from across the nation, and Pepperdine students enrolled in the juris doctor, Master of Laws, or Master of Dispute Resolution degree programs.

Pepperdine University School of Law presented the 13th annual National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition Nov. 12 to 14 in Malibu, California. For the past 13 years, Pepperdine has hosted the competition, which is organized annually by the school’s moot court board.

In conjunction with the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary (NAALJ), Pepperdine presented ‘Excellence in Administrative Justice: Delivering Due Process,’ from October 10 to 14 in Malibu, California. More than 170 judges, professors, and lawyers attended the event.

Pepperdine University School of Law will present the bi-annual Middle Temple Moot Court Competition from Sept. 8 to 9 in Malibu, California. One team of Middle Temple “mooters” will go against a Pepperdine team on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and another team will compete on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. For more than a decade, Pepperdine has hosted the Middle Temple Moot Court and Gray’s Inn competitions in alternate years in conjunction with the Honorable Society of the Middle Temple.

Pepperdine’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution will host the 23rd Annual Summer Professional Skills Program in Dispute Resolution, June 10-12, at the School of Law in Malibu, California.

Pepperdine University School of Law will celebrate commencement at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 21, in Alumni Park on the Malibu campus. Honorary Doctorate recipient Blake Morant, dean of the Wake Forest University Law School, will address the graduates. Andr’ Birotte (JD ’91), United States Attorney for the Central District of California, will be honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Pepperdine University School of Law will host more than 80 judicial clerks from across the country for the 10th Annual Wm. Matthew Byrne, Jr., Judicial Clerkship Institute on March 18-20 in Malibu, California.
